COMMUNITY
Serving the community is at the heart of everything we do at St. John's. We do this in several ways, from our AA and CA recovery meetings to hosting mobile businesses in our church car park, to our community 'Wild Goose Café' as well as partnering with local and overseas charities.

Recovery Ministry
At St John’s we host 2 different 12-step fellowships for those with any kind of addiction and your are encouraged to join us on a Monday and Tuesday evening where you will be assured of a warm welcome and a safe place to speak with people who specialise in addiction recovery.
Monday evening 7.30pm - 9.30pm is a Cocaine Anonymous (CA) meeting - an opportunity to follow the 12-step programme where there is total anonymity, a safe space to share, encourage and support each other - refreshments provided.

Tuesday evening 7:30pm - 8.30pm is about studying the 12-step programme big book, the basic text for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and how its recommendations can be applied in the everyday life of a recovering addict.
The Recovery Course
Alongside the AA and CA evenings we have also run The Recovery Course - A free 15 week course based on the 12-step programme of Alcoholics Anonymous, incorporating Christian principles, and designed solely for anyone seeking to break a dependence on any addiction. Everyone is welcome, regardless of ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Some do the course to intentionally invest in their recovery, others are looking to address more specific challenges. Either way, the course offers essential tools and practical ideas and support to help understand addiction and help people find lasting recovery.

St John’s Church Car Park for mobile business units
During the lockdown, small businesses suffered greatly in a number of ways and we wanted to support them in any way we could. We started hosting a local barber and member of our Church who runs his mobile unit from the car park, 4 days a week.
Luke’s Mobile Barber Shop is a fully equipped van and appointments can be made by calling Luke on 07890 039037
If you would be interested in running your mobile business from our car park, please contact us at admin@sjandsm.org
Halls for Hire
St Johns have a large hall for hire at the back of their Church which can comfortably seat 100 people. We're also able to separate the hall into two smaller venues.
St John’s pre-school use one of those smaller venues between 8am and 3pm, Monday to Friday and a variety of other activities happen in this space in the evenings.
The remaining small space is available for hire both week days and evenings.

The large Church worship building is also available to hire for conferences or large meetings. It's open plan and fully equipped with a new sound system and three, large, LCD screens with internet streaming capability. Both the hall for hire and main worship building have separate kitchens and toilet facilities
St John's Pre-school
Established in 1981 and held in our Church hall, St John's Pre-school provides the highest possible standard of care and education for children aged between 2-5 years in the Rainham community. For full details visit their website below
Charities Supported by St John's
Here at St John's we are only too aware of the impact homelessness has on the physical and mental wellbeing of people in our community. That's why we've partnered with 'Ahava Community' who are committed to ending homelessness and supporting individuals in crisis.

Throughout the year St John's is involved with events and activities designed to support Ahava's work, the full details of which can be found on their website below. To be kept informed about our initiatives and activities with Ahava, visit our contact page and subscribe to the St John's monthly update.
As well as focusing on our own community, St John's also shares a heart for the poor, and marginalised across South Asia.
That's why St John's has also partnered with the Dignity and Freedom Network (DFN) to help as many as possible to transition to a life of Dignity and Freedom.
Through a number of activities and initiatives held throughout the year, St John's supports DFN programmes that are designed, led and staffed by fantastic people who are all native to the country itself. Full details can be found on their website below. To be kept up to date with this and all of St John's services, activities and events, visit our contact page and subscribe to our monthly update.
As part of the UK wide Trussell Trust charity, the Rainham food bank was started in 2011 by a local Church who didn't believe anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. Since then, they have provided three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis.
At St John's we are committed to assisting them through regular donations of non perishable food and items. Full details of their work and ways to contribute both items (and your time!) can be found below.
